What is the difference between CCD sensor and CMOS sensor?

Charge
-Coupled Devices (CCDs) were originally the right answer. The CCD was the first high quality sensor, and they're still found in a few cameras. 

CMOS sensors, however, are the better choice in most cases. Much of this has been about chip process. CCDs are largely analog devices, and need special production processes that aren't really used by other devices. This has slowed the evolution of CCDs and kept the prices high -- CCDs today are absolutely more expensive than CMOS imagers of the same resolution. CMOS chips leverage the vast production capabilities of the digital semiconductor industry, being made in a process similar to that used for DRAM and CPUs. 

Early CMOS chips were pretty evil... low cost and low quality. This started to change in the early DSLR era, when in 2000, Canon produced the first CMOS-powered DSLR, the EOS D30, which produced photos with measurably less noise than the CCD-based cameras of the era. Before long, higher end CMOS had become common for use in DSLRs and professional camcorders (around the time of the move to HD video). Meanwhile, the lower-end CMOS sensors improved in quality, to the point where they basically took over all low-end photography and video (P&S cameras, consumer camcorders, smartphones, etc). 

CMOS sensors have been using the advantage of digital technology to improve image quality. The analog signals don't have to travel as far on a CMOS chip, and as the geometries shrink, noise has been dramatically reduced, to the point we're at today, where CMOS-based still cameras come with ISOs over 100,000, besting any film that's been invented. 

CCD still has one advantage, though that's more of "current practice" than any hard limitation. A CCD is basically a huge analog shift register. Each pixel accumulates a charge during exposure -- light strikes a photodiode, each photo releases an electron.  Such a sensor is basically always active, so it needs a mechanical shutter as well, to stop the accumulation of charge and allow the "coupling" of charge from cell to cell to sense amplifier and analog to digital converter... kind of a bucket brigade of charge. 

Most current CCDs use a thing called interline transfer. Basically, the CCD has twice as many pixels as the rating... every other pixel is masked off from light. So the sensor exposes, then shifts every pixel over by one, from light-gathering pixels to dark pixels, where the charge will no longer change. The dark pixels are then shifted out while the next set of light pixels is exposed. This is what allowed modern camcorders: the effect of a global electronic shutter and fast operation. As a down side, it also limited the light gathering area of the CCD to less than 50% of the total area, though that's been somewhat mitigated by microlenses and other cool tricks. 

CMOS sensors are fast enough to shift out pixel data nearly in real time, while they can be used with a mechanical shutter (as on any DSLR or mirrorless ILM camera), they don't have to be. For video and cheaper consumer models, the electronic shutter is all you have. With no need for a backing store of charge, CMOS became much cheaper (and as before, it's already in a cheaper IC process). The down side is what's been termed "the jello effect". The CMOS sensor will have groups of pixels enabled in turn for charge collection, a few lines at a time or so depending on the sensor architecture. These expose and then shift the result very quickly out of the chip and into digital. Then the next set gets exposed, and so far. The end result is that the exposure varies in time a bit over the sensor... and when you're shooting fast moving things, you get this "jello" effect. Not an issue with digital still photography on a good camera, but definitely a video concern. Again, it's possible to build a CMOS sensor with a global electronic shutter (using a backing store like the CCD would do it), but the current emphasis has been on lowering costs. 

What Anthony is alluding to has nothing to do with the sensor technology. In the classic small-sensor camcorder, there are three sensors: 0ne for red, one for green, one for blue. They're all the same, and can be CMOS or CCD. The trick is that they're very small, and right behind the lens there's a diachroic prism, which splits light by color to feed each sensor separately. This is not done in large-sensor cameras (still or video). Rather, using a much larger sensor and 4x as many pixels as you need for your video size, there's "pixel bucketing" where each video pixel is actually made of four physical pixels (often straight Bayer pattern RGBG, sometimes RWGB, where "W" is an unfiltered pixel ... "white" ... no color information but about 3x more sensitive).

If you have some interest in photography, then surely these names are not new for you. Yes, all these terms are related to digital photography. Today, the field of digital photography has become so advanced that it has become very difficult to understand the technologies, used in different digital cameras. To resolve this issue, here is some key information about commonly used terms in digital photography.
CCD
CCD or Charged-Couple Device is such image sensor or photo-electric device that is widely used in digital imagining for light detection. Actually, CCD image sensors are used, where high-quality image with minimum noise is being required.
CMOS
Complementary metal-oxide semi-conductor or CMOS is such image sensor that is also used in digital photography, but as a cheaper replacement of CCD sensors. These sensors are relatively good for providing color information, but yield noisy background.
DSLR
Digital Single Lens Reflex cameras are the digital cameras in which both CCD and CMOS image sensors can be used, depends upon the required quality of picture. In these digital cameras, a penta-prism and a mechanical mirror system is used to direct light from lens to image sensor.
MOS
MOS or Metal Oxide semi-conductor is the image convertor used for vision construction and today, it is widely using technology in latest digital cameras. It is also observing that MOS is generating same results as CCD in contrast to CMOS.

DSLR is obviously the digital camera in which we can use either CCD image sensor or CMOS image sensor. A CCD is an analogue image sensor that gives best light sensitivity with low noise and hence best picture quality. The drawback is that CCD offer poor color reproduction in contrast to CMOS that offer best color reproduction. Moreover, CMOS consume less power and are cheaper one as compared to CCD. Today, some manufacturers are using MOS technology that is going equivalent to CCD in terms of light sensitivity and noise level

Microsoft rolling out Lumia Denim Update in India

It seems to be like Microsoft is rolling out it's much awaited OS update in India. We saw some of users are getting this update. If you are connected to Wi-Fi then the update will automatically get downloaded to your Lumia phone.

 Create Bootable USB Pen Drive for Windows 7

Installing Windows from a USB flash drive has several advantages : First of all, the overall speed of the installation process will increase significantly, carrying a USB stick is much more convenient than a DVD, and finally it becomes possible to install the OS even on those systems that do not have a DVD drive, such as a netbook.

In this post, I will show you how to load the Windows installation in your USB flash drive and how to make it bootable just like the DVD from your .iso image.
There are Two Options: 
1. Windows 7 USB-DVD Download Tool.
2. Basic Option.

Just Download this Tool from Microsoft Website and Install in your Desired PC then browse your .iso image and follow some easy steps:-

Tools Required:
1. USB flash drive with a minimum capacity of 4 GB.
2. Windows 7 Setup DVD.


Step 1 : Plug-in your USB flash drive.
Step 2 : Open the PowerShell (OR Command Prompt if PowerShell Not Exist). If you are using Windows 7/Vista then open it with administrator rights*.
"Goto Start -> All Programs -> Accessories ->Windows PowerShell ->  Right-click on “Windows PowerShell” and select “Run as Administrator”.
Step 3: In the PowerShell, type
DISKPART
This will start the Microsoft DiskPart utility as shown below:
Now issue the following command:
LIST DISK

This will show you a list of  available disks on your system. Disk 0 is usually the hard disk. In my case, Disk 1 is the USB drive (this can be a different one in your case). Now issue the command as shown below:



 SELECT DISK 1



above command, 1 is the USB drive number on my system. If you have a different number on your system, then you need to replace 1 with that number.

Step-4: Now issue the following list of commands one by one as shown below:

CREATE PARTITION PRIMARY
SELECT PARTITION 1
ACTIVE
FORMAT FS=NTFS QUICK
ASSIGN
EXIT





Close Power Shell and proceed to the next step.

Step 5: Insert the Windows 7/Vista installation disc and note down the “drive letter” of your DVD drive. In my case, it is “H:”.



Open the Command prompt. If you are using Windows 7/Vista then open it with administrator rights.
Goto Start -> All Programs -> Accessories -> Right-click on “Command Prompt” and select “Run as Administrator”.

Now type the following list of commands as shown below:
H:
CD BOOT
BOOTSECT.EXE /NT60 G:(NOTE:
G: is your USB drive letter)

EXIT



Step-6: Copy the contents of your Windows 7/Vista installation disk into the USB flash drive.
Directly Copy-Paste All DVD file into Usb Stick Then…
Your USB stick is now ready to boot and install the OS for you. Don’t forget to enable the “USB Boot” option and change the “Boot priority to USB device from hard disk” in your BIOS settings.

Macros for file headers
File headers that ReSharper applies on code cleanup can now contain macros defining things such as solution, project and file name; current date and time; and file creation date and time. This means you don't have to manually update the file header ahead of every cleanup.

Sometimes, it's not outright clear why ReSharper highlights code in a particular way. However, it's now easy to get an explanation why ReSharper is coming up some of its most perplexing code inspections: clicking Why is ReSharper suggesting this in the drop-down menu that you get on pressing Alt+Enter opens a wiki page clarifying a particular inspection.

Searchable code inspection severity options
Customizing inspection severity is now a lot easier, for several reasons. First of all, all code inspections can now be configured to be shown with a particular level of severity, be it an error, warning, suggestion, or hint.
Second, we have introduced several tabs in the Options dialog that help manage inspection severity for a specific language or technology.
Last but not least, you can now search for specific inspections in the list, which is an enormous time saver if you're looking to customize inspections containing a particular keyword.

ReSharper SDK
The new ReSharper SDK is set to simplify the development and maintenance of ReSharper plug-ins. Introduced with ReSharper 6.1, the SDK provides target files and a full set of ReSharper assemblies, including test infrastructure assemblies required to test ReSharper plug-ins. Visual Studio templates for creating different kinds of plug-in projects are also available with the SDK.

Performance and bug fixes
We have processed hundreds of bug reports and bad performance complaints. Between releasing versions 6.0 and 6.1, we have fixed around 150 performance issues and over 800 bugs! For example, if you have seen ReSharper 6.0 processing source files longer than expected, versions 6.1 and 6.1.1 fix that, and contain a lot more performance fixes.

Navigation has been enhanced and extended in a multitude of ways. For example, when you're looking to jump to a file, you can narrow down the search by entering parts of a path to the file using spaces as delimiters. This is super handy when you have hundreds of similarly named files in your solution:

There's a new contextual navigation feature available for types: by calling the Navigate To menu upon a type declaration or usage, you can easily get the list of extension methods for this type:

Another new contextual navigation feature is Navigate to Parameter Declaration. This is an efficient substitute for Go to Declaration when you're dealing with multi-parameter methods: it lands you on a specific parameter instead of a method name. That means, no more lost focus while scrolling to the parameter you need.

ReSharper 6 also adds a set of new filters in the Find Resultswindow that you use to focus on specific kinds of occurrences while searching for usages. Bundled decompiler
With ReSharper 6, you don't need a third-party decompiler anymore! Decompile and navigate to library code as easily as you navigate to source code. The entire ReSharper navigation infrastructure, including Go to Symbol/Type/File/File Member,File Structure, navigating through inheritance hierarchy and usage search, is available for decompiled code.

Improved management of settings
In ReSharper 6.1, the settings engine has been revamped extensively, with extra emphasis on sharing and managing settings. We have made many more settings accessible and sharable, and introduced new granular settings — for example, those defining IntelliSense behavior for different languages.
Settings are now layered, meaning that you can define global, per-solution, per-team or individual settings. Also, you can now export and import all or selected settings to/from a single file:

Optimizing assembly references
ReSharper 6.1 helps you inspect assembly references in any C#, VB.NET, or XAML-enabled project, and see whether any of them are effectively not used. As soon as you know that, you can remove all unused references, or clean them up selectively.

Multiple new code inspections
We have introduced tens of new on-the-fly code inspections in ReSharper 6, all of which work in C# code and the majority in VB.NET.
Prominent additions include Possible multiple enumeration of IEnumerable that is triggered when you're doing excessive work looping through an enumerable:

ReSharper 6 adds another pop-up menu item that displays on pressing Alt+Enter over highlighted code. This lets you search for similar issues in the entire project, solution, or a folder. This is a much more straightforward way to focus on a specific problem than before when you had to start with searching for code issues in a scope, and proceed with carefully customizing filters.

Converting LINQ to loops
In ReSharper 5, we have introduced transformations from forand foreach loops to LINQ statements. We simply wouldn't stop there: if you prefer traditional loops over the elegant query language, ReSharper 6 will happily transform LINQ to code for you.

New String.Format context actions
We have done a few things to help you deal with format strings with less friction. For instance, when the caret is on a format item, the item is highlighted along with its corresponding object. Then, we have a pack of new context actions to include and exclude format items.

Import types for pasted code
Everyone copies and pastes code sometimes, right? While we can't influence what you're copying, we can help you paste it painlessly. When an alien piece of code gets pasted in, ReSharper 6 figures which import directives it needs, and lets you create all of them with a single Alt+Enter.

In-place refactorings
ReSharper 6 lets you execute some of its most popular refactorings in a new way: you edit code first, then apply a refactoring by pressing Alt+Enter. With Rename, this means you modify a symbol declaration, press Alt+Enter and selectApply Rename Refactoring to spread the change over all usages of the symbol.

Improvements in unit testing
ReSharper's unit test runner has received a great deal of improvements for this release. For instance, it now does provide an error message when you're running tests and your solution doesn't compile. In terms of framework support, ReSharper 6 now detects NUnit test cases both in the Unit Test Sessions window and in the unit test pop-up menu:

In other news, we have introduced a set of default shortcuts for unit testing actions, and a new action called Repeat previous run that lets you re-run the most recent set of unit tests from any position in code.
